Grow Organic at Blue Rock Village

Blue Rock Village is proud of its village lifestyle and prides itself by creating an environmentally friendly village. However, a village life is not yet complete without access to freshly produced food.

As part of our plan, Blue Rock Village has designed an organic community garden which will serve the residents of the village. In the wake of both the devastating environment impact and health concerns related to industry agricultural operations, the organic food market has grown substantially over the last 15 years.

The Blue Rock Village Organic Garden seeks to reduce the environment impact of the agriculture industry and increase the nutritional value and health benefit of our food.

The garden will be solely managed by the community of Blue Rock Village. This will enable them to increase their sense of community ownership and stewardship, foster the development of a community identity and spirit, build community leaders and offer a focal point of community organising that can lead to community-based efforts to deal with other social concerns.

Urban agriculture is 3-5 times more productive per acre than traditional large-scale farming, whilst community gardens provide thousands of kilograms of produce to food pantries and involve people in the processes that provide food security. Better yet, this is the perfect opportunity to teach our young ones where food comes from, the importance of community and stewardship, basic business principles and practical math skills.

Furthermore, studies have shown that exposure to green spaces reduces stress and increases a sense of wellness and belonging - which is one of Blue Rock Village’s main objectives. Community gardens also add beauty to the community and heighten people’s awareness and appreciation for living things. And according to Scientific studies, gardens have been shown to actually increase property values in the immediate vicinity where they are located.

With that in mind, it also needs to be noted that organic farming consumes up to 40% less energy than conventional industrial farming and supports a higher level of wildlife on farms. Buying and growing more organic food can effectively reduce your food footprint by around 15%. This is just another one of the initiatives that makes Blue Rock Village a world class development.
