What is Car Free Living?

In this day and age, a car is an extension of us, a part of us, something we depend on and a reminder of the fast pace life we live. Now imagine a place where this reminder is hidden, where instead of large flat grey parking lots, lies tree alleys, picnic spots, living streets, open spaces for jogging, walking and communal gatherings.

Blue Rock Village aims to create a lifestyle of safe pedestrian living, a place that adds to the conservation of our environment. Our Car Free Living concept is not a Village without cars, but a place where you are encouraged to have a lifestyle without one. We are removing cars from living area’s, increasing pedestrian space to more than 40%. Does this mean you can’t have a car? Not at all.. Your car will be safely tucked away, underground, out of sight in your designated parking bay.

The lyrics of Counting Crows “Big Yellow Taxi”

Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you got 'til it's gone They paved paradise and put up a parking lot.

Blue Rock Village aims to have as much “paradise” as possible and instead of using our beautiful natural land to pave for parking, we will be creating a pedestrian friendly area with tree’s, open space and natural elements.

Vauban, a small town in Germany, completed in 2006, is an example of a growing car free living trend in Europe. Residents of this upscale community are suburban pioneers, street parking, driveways and home garages are generally forbidden in this experimental new district on the outskirts of Freiburg, near the French and Swiss borders. Vauban’s streets are completely “car-free” — except the main thoroughfare, where the tram to downtown Freiburg runs, and a few streets on one edge of the community.

One ring road surrounding the Blue Rock Village will lead all vehicles directly into underground parking facilities, removing vehicles from the streetscape and allowing more space for green foliage, grassy parks and walkways. The Blue Rock Village has reserved land on the perimeter of the Village to make use of public transport facilities so that residents are encouraged to make use of public transport facilities instead of driving.

The vision for a car free community is looking bright at Blue Rock Village!
